Cookie Policy
Exactly what we store, why, and how to control it.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser when you visit. We also use your browser's local storage (a similar technology) to remember certain preferences. Neither type of storage is used to track you across other websites.
This policy covers cookies and similar technologies used by sail.dhfm.in. It applies to all users, including those in India (DPDP Act 2023), the European Union (GDPR & ePrivacy Directive), and the United Kingdom (UK PECR).
Our cookie categories
We use three categories of cookies and similar technologies:
- Strictly necessary (essential): Required for the Platform to function. No consent is needed.
- Preference storage: Stays on your device only; never sent to our servers.
- Analytics: Collected only after you give explicit consent via the cookie banner.
We do not use marketing, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies.
Essential cookies — always on
These are required for sail.dhfm.in to work. You cannot turn them off without losing access to your account. No personal information beyond what is necessary for login security is stored. Under applicable law (GDPR Recital 25, ePrivacy Directive, and DPDP Act), these cookies do not require your consent because they are strictly necessary for the service you have requested.
| Cookie / Storage Key | What it does | Why it's needed | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
WordPress session cookiewordpress_logged_in_* |
Keeps you signed in as you move between pages. | Without it you would be logged out on every click. | Until you log out, or 14 days |
Security tokenwordpress_sec_* |
Protects your account from session-hijacking attacks (CSRF protection). | Required by login security standards. | Current browser session |
Your cookie choicedm_consent |
Remembers whether you accepted or declined the analytics cookie banner. | Necessary to honour your choice and avoid showing the banner on every visit. Required to demonstrate consent under GDPR and DPDP Act. | 180 days |
Preference storage — stays on your device
This is stored in your browser's local storage and never sent to our servers. It is not a cookie and does not require consent under any applicable law.
| Storage Key | What it does | Shared with us? |
|---|---|---|
Dark / light modedm_theme |
Remembers your display theme preference so it is applied automatically on your next visit. | Never |
Analytics — only with your consent
The items below are not browser cookies — they are records stored on our own servers. Under the DPDP Act 2023, GDPR, and UK PECR, we only collect them after you click Accept on the cookie banner, or turn on Analytics & Personalisation in your Dashboard → Preferences.
No analytics data is sent to Google, Facebook, or any other third party. Everything is stored on our own servers in India.
Legal basis: Consent (DPDP Act 2023 §6; GDPR Art. 6(1)(a); UK PECR Regulation 6).
| What is recorded | Why | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| Prompt views | Powers the view counter shown on each prompt and the leaderboard. Your IP is scrambled into an irreversible SHA-256 hash before being stored. | 12 months |
| Prompt copies and shares | Powers copy and share counters. Used to rank popular content on the leaderboard. | 12 months |
| What you searched for | The text you typed in the search box and which result you clicked. Used only to improve the order of search results. | 90 days |
| Time spent on a page | How long you stayed on a prompt page after clicking it from search results. Helps us tell whether a result was useful. | 90 days |
Third-party cookies
When you use the optional "Sign in with Google" feature, Google may set its own cookies as part of the OAuth authentication flow. These cookies are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. We do not control these cookies. If you choose not to use Google login, no Google cookies are set by our Platform.
Razorpay may set cookies on the payment page when you subscribe to Pro. These are governed by Razorpay's Privacy Policy.
How to manage your consent
- Change your analytics choice: Go to Dashboard → Preferences and toggle Analytics & Personalisation on or off, then save. Changes take effect immediately.
- Delete all analytics data we hold about you: Go to Dashboard → Security → Delete my analytics data. This is instant and permanent and does not affect your account or content.
- Clear cookies through your browser: In your browser settings, clear cookies for this site. Your login session, theme preference, and consent record will be reset — the banner will reappear on your next visit.
- Block all cookies: Most browsers let you block all cookies. Doing so will prevent you from logging in to your account.
- Withdraw consent entirely: Clear your
dm_consentcookie or set it to declined. This immediately stops all future analytics collection. Past analytics records are not automatically deleted; use the Dashboard → Security option above to delete them.
